Welcome Aboard Charlene, and thank you for today's Interview!

~~~Author Interview~~~
What inspires you to write?
Dreams, movies, songs, articles and all sorts of things.
Do you have a favorite author?
Several. Penelope Williamson; Maggie Osborne; Jodi Thomas; and Linda Lael Miller come to mind.
Did you enjoy reading as a child?
Actually, I didn't get into reading much until college  and then I read mostly classics, plays, and poetry. I was in my thirties when my sister got me started on romance novels  and I was hooked not only on romance novels, but westerns, suspense, and other genres.
How important is a book cover?
 Extremely important. I've often bought a bought, just because I loved the cover.
Do you have current work in progress?
Yes, I do. I'm re-working the first novel I ever wrote. It's a time travel that starts out in Utah, and moves to the 1834 mountain man rendezvous, as well as editing a western historical entitled Divine Gamble, slated to be released this November.
**INTERVIEW with Author DENISE BARTLETT**
What inspires you to write?
Since I was very young, I have loved books and stories. My mother read stories to me and was a wonderful storyteller, when it was time to come up with something to frighten my friends at Halloween, or create something for school. I write to share all the stories inside me, and I write to problem solve. I write to bring joy to people, who don't know how good they have it, and maybe help them to think about things they can't talk about to anyone else. I want to inspire.
Who is your favorite author?
It's interesting to ask myself that question. I don't know the answer. I am the Chief Editor at Gypsy Shadow Publishing, and I like so much of what our authors have written. I love the spirit of the writer. The one that causes poets to suffer for others, and to love more deeply. The one that causes the words on the paper to take on a life of their own, and create whole worlds for us. I love Tolkien's Middle Earth, Andre Dumas' France, the worlds of Dr. Seuss, and Maurice Sendak.
Did you enjoy reading as a child?
Yes! At one point, when I ran out of books others suggested to me, I decided to just begin with the A authors and work my way through, and begin at the zeros in nonfiction and learn something about everything. I still know my way around in nonfiction, and I still just randomly walk into the YA, youth, or adult section and pick out a few books. I read the ceral box. Really!
How important is a book cover?
It's very important. It's the first and only impression some readers get of your book. If you can't grab them with the picture, they may never read the words inside. We don't want to get the white pages dirty, and in this day and age of electronic pages, the book cover is really the front door of the book.
Do you have current work in progress?
Always. I have a fantasy series in the works, and several additions to 'The Fire Series.'
~~~Author Interview~~~

What inspires you to write?
I am a creative person. My Mom taught me how to crochet when I was five, and I learned many other handicrafts as I grew. Both my parents made things, and were very imaginative. Having come from that kind of background, I grew up being creative, 'inspired' in one way or another by just about everything. My top inspiration comes from beautiful music, true-to-life characters, nature, my friends and my family. I have many 'causes' as well, so I am often inspired by those.

Do you have a favorite author?
I have a lot of trouble listing favorites, since I like so many. Every time I think I've nailed it down to just a few, I read something new by someone I haven't read before, and I'm hooked all over again. I like Poe, Steinbeck, and Hawthorne, to name a few of the old timers. In the spectrum of contemporary authors, I enjoy reading Rita Mae Brown; Sandra Brown; Lillian Jackson Braun; Brian Daley; Elizabeth Ann Scarborough, Tony Hillerman; and Lawrence Block; to name a few.

How important is a book cover?
Since a cover is your first shot at getting someone to pick up your book, I consider it highly important. It has to catch the eye and be appealing enough to make a person read the blurb. It's your first chance to woo your potential reader.

Did you enjoy reading as a child?

You know it! I was only a child with a mother who wanted me in the house, being quiet and still a lot of the time. Books and handicrafts were only two things that put me into that state. I could read the newspaper by the time I started school, and once I discovered all the great Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew mysteries, I was completely hooked. I was pretty much of a shrinking violet without many friends, so I turned to reading to transport me to a more interesting place. By the time I was thirteen, I was starting to put down my own story thoughts, and create my own realities. Reading is what made me want to write, it changed my life.

Do you have current work in progress?

Yes, I have several in various stages of planning and writing. But, the one I'm majoring on right now is WHISPERS FROM THE PAST:Vendetta, book three in the Actor's Guild Paranormal Mystery Series, which I hope to release this year.

**Author Interview #2**

How important is a book cover?

Book covers are like display windows in department stores. They draw you in with the possibilities of what might be behind them. However, if you are happy with what was contained inside takes much more than imagery out front. It takes something that makes you want to turn to the last page.

Have you attended book signings?
Not yet.

Is writing a stress-reliever, a passion, or both?

Writing is my passion. However, it is more of an escape from the boredom and frustration of everyday life, than a simple stress-reliever. I find myself in my own secret place, when my moods match the words on the page.

Has television ever inspired you to write?
For me, there are many different ways and means to seek inspiration. I get inspired to write while walking the streets, observing the "uncensored" world in its unedited reality. The simplicity and uniqueness of a man holding a sign that reads,"need money for beer, have empathy for my honesty" brings me closer to my muse.

Did you have favorite books as a child?
   As a child, I would read any book that I came across. However, I have always enjoyed stories about dogs, especially the ones with happy endings. I smile even now, when thinking of Lassie finding her way home.

~~~Author Interview~~~
What inspires you to write?
The financial benefits. Times are tough, and writing now inspires me to fulfill my passion.
Do you plan on writing a book every year?
   Yes. I plan on writing several.
Describe your perfect writing atmosphere?
I enjoy writing in silence. I can focus more in a quiet place.
Did you enjoy reading as a child?
 During childhood, I disliked it, becoming my worst subject. But, now I love to read, and it has become my passion. I am now an avid reader.
How important is a book cover?
Book covers are very important. People have said,'don't judge a book by its cover.' But, many do. If the cover isn't attractive, you can possibly lose a potential customer.
Do you have current work in progress?
Yes. I'm currently working hard on the sequel to 'Addicted 2 Thuggin' and several other novels.
In your opinion, what is success?
To meet the goals one has strived for.
Author/Attorney Frank R. Southers
Author of "The Grievance Committee"
Genre: Legal Thriller/Literature
It is an honor and with Great pleasure to Interview Frank R. Southers. Thank you for today's Interview. I wish you much success.
**AUTHOR INTERVIEW**
What inspires you to write?
I enjoy sharing my knowledge and helping people learn, understand new concepts and ideas, and re-discover old concepts and ideas with a different twist. As a trial lawyer, I know that story-telling is a necessity to persuade and convince the audience, judge and jury, since most people avoid focusing on abstractions instead of requiring a parable to grasp the offered theme. I also know that the possession of insight helps me understand people's wants and desires, their belief systems, their philosophy, and their values. I enjoy sending the reader to a new and different venue or world, such as viewing the legal disciplinary system from the inside, or such as viewing an organized religion in a different light, such as Catholicism and presenting the reader with a challenge to his or her intellect. I suppose I am a teacher at heart.
How important is a book cover?
We've been taught almost from birth, 'you can't judge a book from its cover.' But, as adults we understand the psychology of the obvious and the covert and the way the images, colors, arrangement and size of the print can easily manipulate our need to possess this trinket which will both entertain and teach us something new. So, very important.
Did you enjoy reading as a child?
Yes. As a child, my reading included the fairy tales; the Hardy Boys; Nancy Drew series; Black Beauty; some Western novels; and lots of comic books. The usual stuff in high school English classes such as Hemingway; Faulkner; Shakespeare; lots of poetry from Keats to Hopkins to Frost, etc. As an English major, the range changed, although I still read all of Faulkner and Conrad, and Joyce. Kurt Vonnegut always gave me a laugh. I enjoy a wide, wide range of literature. My favorites now include: Ken Follett; Scott Turrow; John Grisham; Jodi Picout; Dan Brown.
Describe your perfect writing place.
My Study on the back side of our house in Austin is quiet, and with needed stuff readily available.
Do you have current work in progress?
Yes, Book Two is being edited, and we should have the results very soon. Book Three has been re-written and is almost ready for an editor and I am about forty-percent finished with Book Four, all about the Texas Grievance Committee in San Antonio. For your reading, the first chapter of Book Two is on my website at: http://www.southers.com
"AUTHOR INTERVIEW"
What inspires you to write?
Actually, I have two degrees in literature(a B.A. in English and an M.A. in German), so I have a pretty fair background for writing. However, probably so much literature turned me off for a while, twenty-five years to be precise, until suddenly I had this consuming idea about a man injured while asteroid mining and then repaired by aliens. I don't know exactly where the idea came from, but I sat down and wrote a chapter a day for a month, and boom, the first book was born. Yes, I spent some time afterwards polishing, editing, and reducing the work to its current form. But, the idea flowed out of me as if I had tapped a hidden spring. I do a fair amount of research, of course, to get the astrophysical and physics details right.
The next two books in the series followed on a little more systematically. I gave more attention to plot development, to pacing, to characters, but the actual writing was quite similar. More of a gush, like striking oil, as if it was all coming from some pre-formed deposit. I guess this is what it feels like to be aligned, or in communion with one's muse, choose your preferred metaphor.
Did you enjoy reading as a child?
Very much so. I read vociferously from the age of five or six, until the age of fourteen or fifteen, when I suddenly developed other interests. My reading covered the fiction of the day: Tolkien; C.S. Lewis; Asimov; Bradbury; Dick; Anderson; and many more. But also: science; particularly astrophysics; paleontology; archeology; physics; and explosives, etc.
How important is a book cover?
As long as the people who read it are human, which seems to be most of the time so far, readers will be subject to the same immediate assessment and judgement of a book's face as is normal, when-ever two strangers meet. First impressions are critical. The cover is almost inevitably the vehicle for this first impression.
Describe your perfect atmosphere when writing.
Where I am physically is not so important. I have written while on vacation in Florida, while at home in Austria, in multiple hotels, and airports around the world. The where is not so important. But, I do need quiet, or perhaps non-vocal, preferably classical music in the background and minimal interruption to really let the words flow. The time of day is also not too important to me.
Do you have current work in progress?
Book three in the Second Skin sequence, Tavern On The Edge Of Time, will arrive in December. Here is a synopsis:
During the year 2125, former asteroid miners Max Cody and Elaine Zhou never get a moments rest. No sooner have they doused the flames of war between Earth and Mars, or returned from their first trip to the Tavern on the Edge of Time, when they are called upon to help fit out the fledging Martian colony orbiting Jupiter's moon Callisto.
In parallel, Earth extradites the war's formenter, ex-billionaire arms merchant Xanthus Rex, hoping to gain from his insights into Martian teleportation technology. But, he manages to turn Earth's resources toward private revenge against Max, Mars, and the Callisto Colony.
In the meantime, aliens are leaking into the Earth-Mars continuum from the Tavern, whose proprietor repaired and upgraded Max, after accidentally injuring him during an asteroid mining expedition. Max's enhancements help, of course. But when strange beings with the power to animate matter, the Assemblers find their way to Earth, Max, Mars and humanity are sorely beset.
Worse yet, the Tavern itself is becoming unstable. Its acquisitive host having overstretched his considerable powers. His prospecting for collapsed neutron matter has also opened portals between continua, inadvertently adding still more aliens to the mix. That's when the Assemblers' overlord arrives and Max finally meets his match. Oh, and Elaine is expecting their hybrid baby. Yes, you might say these are difficult times at the Tavern on the Edge of Time.
Beyond that, I have begun to sketch out a possible fourth book in the current series. It exists more like the ribs of a boat in a boatyard, the superstructure reasonably well defined. But the planking and caulking, not to mention the running tackle, sails, rudder all must be defined.
