~~~Author Interview~~~
What inspires you to write?
I am a creative person. My Mom taught me how to crochet when I was five, and I learned many other handicrafts as I grew. Both my parents made things, and were very imaginative. Having come from that kind of background, I grew up being creative, 'inspired' in one way or another by just about everything. My top inspiration comes from beautiful music, true-to-life characters, nature, my friends and my family. I have many 'causes' as well, so I am often inspired by those.
Do you have a favorite author?
I have a lot of trouble listing favorites, since I like so many. Every time I think I've nailed it down to just a few, I read something new by someone I haven't read before, and I'm hooked all over again. I like Poe, Steinbeck, and Hawthorne, to name a few of the old timers. In the spectrum of contemporary authors, I enjoy reading Rita Mae Brown; Sandra Brown; Lillian Jackson Braun; Brian Daley; Elizabeth Ann Scarborough, Tony Hillerman; and Lawrence Block; to name a few.
How important is a book cover?
Since a cover is your first shot at getting someone to pick up your book, I consider it highly important. It has to catch the eye and be appealing enough to make a person read the blurb. It's your first chance to woo your potential reader.
Did you enjoy reading as a child?
You know it! I was only a child with a mother who wanted me in the house, being quiet and still a lot of the time. Books and handicrafts were only two things that put me into that state. I could read the newspaper by the time I started school, and once I discovered all the great Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew mysteries, I was completely hooked. I was pretty much of a shrinking violet without many friends, so I turned to reading to transport me to a more interesting place. By the time I was thirteen, I was starting to put down my own story thoughts, and create my own realities. Reading is what made me want to write, it changed my life.
Do you have current work in progress?
Yes, I have several in various stages of planning and writing. But, the one I'm majoring on right now is WHISPERS FROM THE PAST:Vendetta, book three in the Actor's Guild Paranormal Mystery Series, which I hope to release this year.
